This week our Essential Question in our Wonders program is: What do you do at your school? We will be talking and reading about things that happen at school. Our phonics focus will be the short vowel “Aa”. We have four new high-frequency words: does, not, school, what. This week begins our first week of “Spelling Words”. This week’s words follow short “a” spelling patterns:
man, can, nap, tap, cat, hat - - not, does (from our high-frequency list) Your child will be taking their spelling list home on Tuesday. Included with these words will be suggestions to help your child practice these words. On Friday we will have our first Spelling Test. With our writing this week we will focus on developing Ideas as we continue to make sure that our sentences begin with a capital letter and have ending punctuation. With our Everyday Mathematics program we will work on strategies to help us count-on, turn-around facts, decomposing numbers within 10, and subtraction. I will be sending home several Homelinks this week. Just a reminder – these Homelinks will only need to be returned to school if there is a notation at the top of the page. The purpose of these Homelinks is to keep you informed of what is happening at school, to share directions to play games that we have learned at school, and to give suggestions for helping your child with the concepts that they are learning. As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns. The last of our Painted Lady Butterflies appeared Friday while we were at our Harvest Festival. They were released into our playground garden after school. Seven Painted Lady Butterflies are now flying around our school playground. Over the next couple of weeks our Science investigation will focus on Apples. We will read about apples, make predictions about apples, graph apples, paint with apples and (best of all) taste apples. Stay tuned!
