It feels like your children just walked through the classroom door for the very first time. And now, they walk back out that same door pounds heavier, inches taller, more responsible, more mature, and much wiser.
We have loved watching their personalities unfold day by day and marvel at this splendid miracle of development. During our first grade experience together we have lived, loved, laughed, played, worked hard, learned, and enriched each other’s lives. So many wonderful memories were created this year. Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us. Best wishes to you and your family for the many more memories that await you. Cindy Blythe and Deb Kierstead This has been an amazing year. We have seen so much growth. Friendships have blossomed, confidence has grown, independence has developed, smiles appeared constantly, and laughter has been heard all day long in the classroom. We are so proud of your children!
Our baby chicks left on Thursday and Friday of last week. This was such a fun 21 days in the classroom as we anticipated the arrival of our chicks. Ellie and her family have taken two chicks. Garrett and his family have taken five chicks. We will be getting updates all summer long - - I’ll be sure to post pictures. As we finish up our last few days together we will focus on our favorite activities from the year. Of course, problems solvers will be a major focus. The weather will be taking a turn toward HOT and HUMID. Please send a water bottle for your child. Such an exciting day in the classroom. We have six baby chicks...with one more to go.
We are hatching! So far we have one baby chick. Two more are trying to peek their way out. Stay tuned.

We have a very busy week ahead of us: Monday: Reading Challenge - - outside for the afternoon Wednesday: Walking Field Trip to Northeast Café Thursday: Field Day - - outside all day We were rained out last Monday but tomorrow’s weather looks fantastic for our reading challenge. Here is the information again: New Boston Central School will be celebrating our Reading Challenge success! In a combined effort, over the last 12 weeks, our school has read 7,939 books and 34,340,136 words! The entire school will be walking down to the softball fields by the white buildings to celebrate our reading accomplishment. Classes will be reading with their reading buddies from 1:10 - 1:45 in the afternoon (in their designated area). PLEASE send in a few items to make the afternoon fun for your child and his/her reading buddy. Top on the list would be blankets and towels to lounge on while they read. It will be a sunny day - - please send in hats, sunglasses, and even umbrellas that can be propped up on their blankets, allowing them to read in some shade. We would like to thank the P.T.A. for sponsoring this event and supplying a keepsake prize for all of the students who joined in on the challenge! Field Day on Thursday will be an entire morning outside in the sun. Please put sunscreen on your child before they come to school. Have them wear sneakers, comfortable clothing, and a hat. Please send in an extra water bottle for your child. We are down to the final days for our seven eggs to be in the incubator. Mrs. Judd returned to our classroom on Friday. We “candled” all the eggs. Wow – the chicks are getting so big. Ask your child what they noticed about the eggs. The eggs are scheduled to hatch on Wednesday...there is so much excitement in the classroom. This week with our Wonders program our Essential Question is: What is a tradition? What traditions do you know about? We will be learning about different traditions in other cultures as well as discussing our own traditions. One of our stories will be exploring the Japanese art of paper folding…origami. Later on in the week - be on the lookout for some origami created by your child. Our spelling and phonics focus is three-letter blends. As you have noticed, the words have been getting so difficult. We continue to practice them daily in school. strike, spray, splash, split, scrape, three Our sight words are: your, heard…with exposure to: before, front, push, tomorrow. Also on Monday we will head down to the Library to hear all about the Summer Reading Program with Mrs. Ballou. This is a fantastic program – information will be coming home on how to sign up. Last Friday Mrs. Judd came to our classroom to “candle” our eggs. All seven eggs are looking great. Our excitement is building in the classroom as we anticipate the arrival of our baby chicks on or around June 14th. We are doing many activities within the classroom to enrich this learning experience. We dream…. We wish…. We believe… We READ! We are New Boston! |
