This week with our Wonders program we will focus on the Essential Question: How do animals’ bodies help them? We will be reading folktales about a beaver and a bat. What are some other features that animals have to help them? We will continue this discussion all week long.
Our phonic focus is Long Vowel Aa with the spelling patterns of: ai and ay. Your children are getting really good at spotting long vowels when they end in “magic e”. They understand that the “e” makes the vowel say its name. This week they will learn about “two vowels walking...with the first one doing the talking”. The spelling words for the week are: mail, rain, chain, way, play, day Sight Words: our, carry - - with exposure to: about, animal, eight, give We will be learning about the past-tense verbs: was, were. We will continue reviewing contractions. In Science we investigated the question of: How can the sun help you if you are lost? We learned that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. We made a Sun Finder to help us remember the different locations that we see the sun during the day. We were able to watch two mini-lessons on Mystery Science. First, we learned about our heart and then we discovered why airplanes can’t travel into space. Did your child show you their paper airplane? We had so much fun flying them in the classroom. Has your child told you about Scrolling? This is a great number sense activity - - we have several children already up into the 2,000’s. Scrolling also helps to discover the pattern and ease of counting by 10’s. We will be participating in the school-wide Bobcat Pride Week. Here is reminder of the week’s events: Monday: NBCS Pride – dress in our school colors: blue & yellow Tuesday: Animal Print Day – wear animal print clothing or you can bring in a favorite stuffed animal. It MUST fit in easily in your child’s backpack. Wednesday: Tropical Day Thursday: Camp Day Friday: Parade of Nations - we will be representing Australia in our Relay Race Challenge/Pep Rally. Mrs. Winchell organized such a fun Kids Heart Challenge day last Friday. We cycled through four highly-engaging (and challenging) activities. A huge thank you to Mrs. Winchell, Ms. Kjellander, Mrs. Charles, and Mrs. Chalson. A huge thank you to everyone for your help with our Friendship Celebration on Friday. We enjoyed a delicious brunch and your children loved passing our their cards.
