This week with our Wonders program we will focus on the Essential Question of: What sounds can you hear? How are they made? This will be a nice introduction to our next Science unit on sounds and vibrations. The phonics focus will be on the dipthongs: ou, ow. Spelling words are: cow, town, mouse, how, out, mouth. Sight Words are: nothing, early - - with exposure to: color, instead, oh, thought. The grammar focus will be using “a” and “an”. We will review capitalization and underlining of book titles. With our Everyday Mathematics program we will be working our way through Unit 8. This is such a fun math unit involving fractions and telling time. Already your children can easily look at a fractional part of a shape and correctly label the pieces. With clocks they can correctly identify and label time to the hour and half hour – both analog and digital clocks. We had great discussions about our Earth and the importance of conserving our natural resources. These were some of their ideas: conserve water, pick up trash, recycle, and reuse materials. Check out the pictures below of our projects as well as some time spent with our Fourth Grade Reading Buddies. This week we will be working with Troy Wunderle for our Artist in Residence program. This will be an exciting experience for your children. We will be practicing each day with our final performance being held this Friday, May 3rd. At 8:30 we will be performing for the school and then at 5:00, following our Open House, we will be performing for our families. I will be involved and assisting with each and every rehearsal/practice. As the week unfolds don’t hesitate to contact me with questions. Within the next week or two I will be setting up times for Spring Conferences. Be on the lookout for a notification from Signup Genius. I can’t wait to share the learning and growth that has occurred this year.
