Weather Permitting…..on Monday New Boston Central School will be celebrating our Reading Challenge success! In a combined effort, over the last 12 weeks, our school has read 7,939 books and 34,340,136 words! The entire school will be walking down to the softball fields by the white buildings to celebrate our reading accomplishment. Classes will be reading with their reading buddies from 1:10 - 1:45 in the afternoon (in their designated area). PLEASE send in a few items to make the afternoon fun for your child and his/her reading buddy. Top on the list would be blankets and towels to lounge on while they read. If the weather forecast changes and it is a sunny day, please send in hats, sunglasses, and even umbrellas that can be propped up on their blankets, allowing them to read in some shade. We would like to thank the P.T.A. for sponsoring this event and supplying a keepsake prize for all of the students who joined in on the challenge! This week with our Wonders program our Essential Question is: What is a tradition? What traditions do you know about? We will be learning about different traditions in other cultures as well as discussing our own traditions. One of our stories will be exploring the Japanese art of paper folding…origami. Later on in the week - be on the lookout for some origami created by your child. Our spelling and phonics focus is three-letter blends. As you have noticed, the words have been getting so difficult. We continue to practice them daily in school. strike, spray, splash, split, scrape, three Our sight words are: your, heard…with exposure to: before, front, push, tomorrow. Also on Monday we will head down to the Library to hear all about the Summer Reading Program with Mrs. Ballou. This is a fantastic program – information will be coming home on how to sign up. Last Friday Mrs. Judd came to our classroom to “candle” our eggs. All seven eggs are looking great. Our excitement is building in the classroom as we anticipate the arrival of our baby chicks on or around June 14th. We are doing many activities within the classroom to enrich this learning experience. We dream…. We wish…. We believe… We READ! We are New Boston!
