Last week we talked about the importance of Memorial Day and learned about some of the symbols for our country. We will continue this discussion this week as we prepare for the school-wide Memorial Day Assembly on Wednesday. Your children have been working hard with Mr. Saunders and will be singing a song during the assembly. If possible, please have your child dress in the colors: red, white, and blue. Aubrey presented at our school’s last Community Meeting of the year. Her story about First Grade Planting Christmas Trees brought back a nice memory of this wonderful experience. This week with our Wonders program we will focus on the Essential Question: How can weather affect us? We will be talking and reading about different kinds of weather and how it affects our lives. A nice connection will be made between today’s cold and rainy weather and the forecast for the remainder of the week of hot. With the warm temperatures outside and the amount of running around done at recess, please send water bottles each day for your child.
Our Spelling Words this week are words with: wr, kn, gn: gnat, gnu, know, knife, write, wrong. Our high-frequency words are: been, their - - with exposure to: children, month, question, year. Have you heard about our chicken eggs? Last Wednesday we put seven eggs in the incubator. For 21 days we will track the development that is happening inside these eggs using our Chick Life Cycle Exploration set which provides illustrations of a developing chick in 20 plastic eggs. We are so excited about day 21!
